Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the strategic research clusters at the School of Dentistry of the National University of Córdoba (Argentina) and to characterize their international scientific profile. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted to analyze the scientific and technological capabilities of FO-UNC researchers leading subsidized projects, PIDTA 2023 and 2025 calls. The projects were grouped into strategic clusters based on their objectives and thematic areas. Additionally, the preliminary results of an institutional survey on research internationalization (n=27) were analyzed; this survey examined international scientific output, academic mobility, participation in international networks and projects, external funding, and perceived barriers. Results: Five strategic research clusters were identified: Social epidemiology and public health; Biotechnology applied to health; Oral biology and biomarkers; Education and pedagogical innovation; and Digital dentistry. Nearly all researchers (95%) reported having published in international journals over the past five years, and more than two-thirds (70%) reported co-authored publications with foreign researchers. Collaborations were concentrated primarily in Latin America and, secondarily, in Europe. Nearly half the participants (45%) engaged in international academic mobility and/or projects, which also reported international co-authored publications; significant associations were observed between these variables (Fisher, p=0.014). Conclusions: In conclusion, the School possesses a diversified research structure and well-established capabilities for scientific cooperation. The academic mobility and participation in international projects are key strategies for strengthening collaborative output and institutional internationalization.
