Abstract

Objectives: To compare the effects of pre- and postnatal exposure to amoxicillin on the developing dental alveolus in suckling rats.

Methodology: Pregnant female Wistar rats will be randomly assigned to three groups. From day 13 of gestation until parturition, groups E1 and E2 will receive 500 mg/kg of amoxicillin daily via gavage, while group C will receive physiological saline solution under the same conditions as E1 and E2. From birth until day 15 postnatal, when all animals (n=8 per group) will be euthanized, pups from groups E1 and C will continue to receive the same treatment according to their group, while those from group E2 will not receive any treatment. Hemimaxillary samples will be processed for subsequent histological, histomorphometric, and immunohistochemical analysis. Data will be analyzed using one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Bonferroni correction, considering p < 0.05 as statistically significant.

Expected Results: This project aims to clarify the effect of both prenatal and postnatal exposure to amoxicillin on the modeling and remodeling of the alveolus during tooth eruption.
