Abstract

Cementum is a connective tissue with the particularity that its organic matrix is mineralized. Within its components is posible to identify the cementoblasts, the cementocytes and in certain conditions the cementoclasts. In the organic matrix there are two components, one fibrillar, represented mainly by collagen type I, and another non-fibrillar, which includes diverse molecules capable of producing a varied number of functions. Being a mineralized connective, the hydroxyapatite that articulates with the organic matrix to produce this mineralization. The objective of this work is to update the histological-molecular characteristics of cement, and especially the non-fibrillar extracellular matrix components, and how these contribute to maintenance and tissue regeneration
