Abstract
Objective: Obtain extracts from Psidium cattleianum leaves using different alcoholic maceration protocols and perform their chemical characterization. Compare the methods used to extract phenols, flavonoids, and antioxidant capacity.
Methods: The leaves will be collected, washed, and dried in an oven at 50 °C for 24 hours. They will be ground with a mortar and passed through a No. 18 filter (1 mm). Alcoholic maceration methods will be conducted at room temperature, varying alcohol concentration (40%, 50%, or 70%) and maceration time (24 and 72 hours), creating six study groups. In all cases, the powder-to-liquid ratio will be 1:10 (weight: volume), and the mixture will be stirred on a magnetic agitator at 500 rpm. The extracts will be purified using 240 nm filter paper and concentrated by evaporation in a water bath at 40-50 °C. The determination of phenolic and flavonoid concentrations, as well as antioxidant capacity, will be performed via spectrophotometry. Phenols will be measured using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent at an absorbance of 760 nm, flavonoids will be analyzed with aluminum chloride at 425 nm, and antioxidant capacity will be measured using the ABTS method [2,20-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)] at an absorbance of 734 nm. Data obtained will be analyzed using ANOVA tests.
Expected Results: Obtain extracts from Psidium cattleianum leaves and study their chemical composition. Identify the most effective extraction protocol for obtaining bioactive compounds.
